Lecithin in general

Lecithin (German: 'egg yolk') is a substance that our body produces itself, but which is also absorbed through food and nutritional supplements. Lecithin is the classic name for a group of chemical compounds called phosphatidylcholines. These are phospholipids that are made up of fatty acids, glycerin, phosphoric acid and the ammonium compound choline.

In the human body, phospholipids have the task of regulating the transport of ions through the cell membranes, insulating the nerve endings and thus ensuring the smooth transmission of nerve impulses. Lecithin is also the starting substance for important messenger substances in the brain and the nervous system; even the mucous layer of our large intestine and the bile fluid contain lecithin.
