Supplements
If you have started your Candida Diet and you are experiencing some of the Die-Off symptoms, there are supplements that you can take to make your treatment easier. We've listed the best of them below, along with some alternative strategies that you can try too.
- Molybdenum converts acetaldehyde (the major toxin released during Die-Off) into acetic acid. This can then be excreted from the body like any other toxin.
- Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) restores your adrenal function and helps to boost your immune system.
- Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic amid) is almost as effective as Vitamin C in supporting your adrenals, and it’s actually best if you take both. It also helps removing the acetaldehyde by providing your body with the building blocks to synthesize Co-enzyme A, that can metabolise acetaldehyde.
- Milk Thistle contains a compound (Silymarin) that helps to repair damaged liver cells and protect them from the toxins released at Die-Off.
Molybdenum
Molybdenum is an essential trace mineral. It is found naturally in the human body, in small quantities and also in certain foods. It is an excellent supplement to protect your body from the effects of Candida overgrowth.
Molybdenum is particularly useful during Candida Die-Off, when it helps your liver to expel the toxins that are produced when the Candida yeast is killed. To help with Candida overgrowth or Die-Off you will need more Molybdenum than is typically present in your body and food. We have some excellent non-allergen Molybdenum supplements in our netshop
How does Molybdenum help with Candida?
Molybdenum is particularly useful during Candida Die-Off, where it helps your liver to expel the toxins that are produced when the Candida yeast is killed. The Candida yeast lives on sugars in your gut. When it processes these, one of the byproducts that it releases is a neurotoxin named acetaldehyde. This is just one of the toxins that Candida releases (there are a total of 79!), but it happens to be the most important. Acetaldehyde has a whole host of detrimental effects on your health and wellbeing. It can impair your brain function and lead to poor mental performance, especially in Die-Off periods. Your endocrine, immune and respiratory systems can all be affected, and it also damages the membranes of your red blood cells, reducing their ability to carry oxygen round the body. Again this directly affects your brain, so you can see how acetaldehyde is linked to Candida symptoms like brain fog and fatigue. Acetaldehyde is accumulated in your body - it does not get excreted as fast as other toxins. A build up or accumulation of acetaldehyde can lead to joint pain, a feeling of weakness and aches in muscles, in addition to those harmful effects on your brain. Molybdenum helps by converting the acetaldehyde into acetic acid. This can then be excreted from the body like any other toxin. Alternatively, the acetic acid can actually be converted into the enzyme acetyl Coenzyme A, which is an important part of your metabolism. Acetaldehyde is especially being released during Candida Die-Off, which is when molybdenum is most useful. If you think you are experiencing Die-Off and you are feel the usual fatigue and flu-like symptoms, Molybdenum may be able to help you. Energi returns and the mental sluggishness disappears.
Pantethine
Pantethine helps Candida sufferers in a couple different ways. Firstly, it helps your body metabolize acetaldehyde, one of the toxic byproducts of Candida and Candida Die-Off. Secondly, it boosts your adrenal glands, organs that are an important part of your immune system but that are often weakened by Candida overgrowth.
Pantethine addresses the symptoms of Candida overgrowth by removing the acetaldehyde, the worst toxic byproduct from Candida infestation and Die-Off. It does this by providing your body with the building blocks to synthesize co-enzyme A, an important nutrient that plays a huge role in your metabolism, for instance the metabolismen af acetaldehyd. With respect to its use on a Candida diet, Pantethine performs a very similar role to Molybdenum.
Your adrenal glands are often one of the first casualties of a Candida overgrowth. You can read more about this in the "Adrenal Fatigue" section under the ”About Candida” section. Pantethine can play an important role in your recovery by boosting your adrenals and restoring your immune system to health. Pantethine supports the production of an adrenal steroid named cortisone, which reduces inflammation in your body. Without this you will be liable to suffer from IBS and other inflammatory conditions that are typically related with Candida.
Vitamin C
Vitamin C is likewise important for Candidapatients. Vitamin C helps with Candida overgrowth in three ways. First, it provides support to your adrenals, two small organs that are crucial for your metabolism and blood sugar regulation (as well as your body’s production of substances like anti-inflammatories and antihistamines). Second, Vitamin C is an antioxidant that boosts your immune system and gives your body the best chance possible to fight off the Candida yeast. Lastly, it helps boost your stomach acid, which slows the Candida overgrowth.
Vitamin C is an often recommended treatment for over-stressed and fatigued adrenals. Some of the highest concentrations of Vitamin C in your entire body are actually found in your adrenals. Vitamin C will help restore your adrenal glands to health, build up your immune system and allow your body to fight off the Candida. Healthier adrenal glands mean more energy and a higher metabolism too.
Vitamin C is an antioxidant and therefore help protecting the bodycells against oxidation reactions. A diet rich in antioxidants eases the burden on the immune system so it instead can focus on fighting the Candidainfection. Fortunately, the Candidadiet with all its vegetables contains large amounts of vitamin C. So for most Candidapatiens addition of vitamin C is not necessary if they stick to the Candidadiet. As with the B-vitamins, Candidapatients will respond allergenic to most supplements with vitamin C. We have in our store vitamin C with bioflavonoids (natural vitamin C), with tablet ingredients that are tolerated by most Candidapatients. Bioflavonoids enhance the absorption of the Vitamin C, and prolong its effectiveness too.
Milk Thistle
Die-Off can be a combination of headaches, nausea, breakouts and many other symptoms, and unfortunately its the number one reason why people give up their Candida treatment. A herb named Milk Thistle can help, and you can take it all through your treatment.
When the Candida yeast is killed it can actually release up to 79 different toxins, of which the most important are ethanol and Acetaldehyde. If your liver can’t act fast enough to remove them, these become responsible for a wide range of Die-Off symptoms. You can see the importance of a healthy, functioning liver and why you want to minimize the effects of Die-Off. That’s why Milk Thistle is such a useful supplement for Candida sufferers. The active ingredient in Milk Thistle is Silymarin, which is actually a group of phytochemical compounds named flavonolignands. These compounds help your liver in a number of ways. Firstly, Silymarin stimulates protein synthesis in your liver, helping to repair damaged liver cells and restoring their function. Secondly, it actively protects your liver cells by making changes to the cell membranes. This prevents toxins from entering the cells. And thirdly, Silymarin encourages the growth of new liver cells.
Your body needs all the support it can get to reduce the effects of Die-Off, and that’s where Milk Thistle comes in. It is a natural supplement that both repairs your liver and protects it from future damage. The active ingredient in milk thistle is Silymarin. You can find Milk Thistle Extract in our netshop as capsules with no allergens and with a high content of the active ingredient Silymarin. We also have it as the natural dried herb, which can be used as.
Many other herbal remedies have positive health-giving properties, that Candidapatients can benefit from. For more information about herbs and extracts see under the ”Candida Treatment” section or in our netshop where we have a fine selection of fresh, dried herbs in a high quality and without additives.
