This product contains iron in the form of  iron bisglycinate . Each iron particle is strongly bound (chelated) to two (bis) molecules of the amino acid glycine. The general term for such a compound is amino acid chelate or amino acid chelated mineral. The word “chelate” comes from the Greek and means “claw”.

Mineral salts versus amino acid chelated minerals

What normally happens with mineral salts: When minerals get into the acidic environment of the stomach, the digestive process begins with the separation of the mineral part from the chemical structure. However, this does not happen with the amino acid chelate form, as described below.

As the mineral element goes through the digestive process, it is naturally electrically charged. This charge attracts the element to other charged particles (ions), such as B. occur in vegetables, fibers and fats. These substances from food isolate the mineral ions so that they can no longer be absorbed and used so well by the body (see Figure 2).

Benefits of amino acid chelated minerals

How iron bisglycinate is absorbed

The chelate structure in an amino acid chelate is strong enough not to break down under the influence of gastric juice or digestive enzymes (as is usually the case with other mineral compounds), but also weak enough that the mineral element can be released once it is released from the cells was absorbed in the intestine. The amino acids fold around the mineral element and protect it during the digestive process and do not let go of it. In addition, the electrical charge on the chelate is neutral, so it doesn't get stuck on food residues in the stomach and intestines.
