| Description | Thiamine is the precursor to the biologically active form of vitamin B1, thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP). Magnesium is required for the conversion of thiamine into TPP. Thiamine pyrophosphate is a coenzyme involved in several reactions related to energy metabolism, including the release of energy from fat, carbohydrates and protein. It fulfills this function in energy metabolism in all cells, including the cells of the heart and nervous system, and thus contributes to the normal functioning of the heart and nervous system. It is also important for brain and nerve functions, as these are responsible for aspects such as concentration, memory and mood. |
