Only about 5-10% of iron is absorbed. Two factors influence iron absorption:

1) The amount of Iron already in the body - the less there is, the more is absorbed.

2) Tannins found in tea, calcium, polyphenols and phytates (substances that bind to certain minerals, found in cereals and legumes) all decrease absorption of iron.

As with Magnesium, Iron in the form Iron Bisglycinate does not bind to these compounds so has a better opportunity for absorption.

Metabolics has now included Vitamin C with the formulation as it increases absorption between 2-4 times.
